November Beach Cleanup

November Beach Cleanup

Our crew walked down to the beach yesterday morning and immediately started grabbing large pieces of plastic with a look of shock on their faces. The beach was an absolute wreck. I've never seen Makapu'u Beach in this bad of condition since I've been on island. We believe the recent recession of high tides left behind the rows and rows of marine debris. Here's a recap of the 40+ pounds of trash (mostly plastic and foam) that our amazing group of young people removed from the shoreline:

  • 425 pieces of plastic and foam

  • Countless handfuls of microplastics

  • 37 pieces of fishing gear

  • Children's toys

  • Detergent bottles

  • A plastic hanger

  • Food wrappers

  • Take-out containers

  • Plastic bottles

  • Glass bottles

  • Aluminum cans

  • Cigarette butts

  • Plastic grocery bags

  • Straws

  • Disposable utensils

  • Diapers

  • Other various pieces of rubbish

Please take a moment to reflect on this. Trash from all over is landing here on our tropical paradise. What can you do today to reduce your impact?
