Halloween Costumes from your Closet
What are you going to be for Halloween?!
This question used to send me into a panic-fueled race to the mall and the craft store. I don’t like repeating outfits and I especially don’t like repeating Halloween costumes. This mindset is a problem. I’ve bought way too many weird clothing items, boas, glitter, and cheap jewelry to wear one time for a few hours just for one costume. Hellooooo PLASTIC. So over the past few years, in an attempt to save money as a broke college student/postgrad and to reduce my waste output, I’ve started working with what I already have in my closet and I’ve been amazed at all my options. No costume repeating required. Keep reading for some costume ideas you can throw together with what you already have at home!
I’m blonde and I always have something pink and a pair of stilettos in my closet. That lends perfectly to Elle Woods, Barbie, Regina George, Paris Hilton. #thatshot
Who doesn’t have a flannel shirt?! Just wear jeans and roll up the sleeves a little, and you’re a lumberjack. Or add a little black makeup and you’re a scarecrow. Does your coworker/ friend have a blue dress? Have her braid her hair and you two can start skipping down the yellow brick road!
Some other easy costumes you could probably pull together from your closet are Rosie the Riveter, a witch, some kind of royalty, or a zombie. Last year, I was a professional golfer for my work party. Bonus: I got to wear comfy athletic clothes and a hat all day.
I hope this list helps you as you plan for the last of your Halloween parties! Do you have any ideas I might have missed? Drop them in a comment below or join the conversation on Instagram!
