Changing my Shopping Mindset

Changing my Shopping Mindset

I’ve started making a conscious effort to buy ethically made and environmentally friendly clothes. And I’m not going to lie- it is not an easy task! So what’s a fashionista to do?

I’m shopping with a purpose. I’m getting very real with myself and asking questions like: What event am I wearing this to? Can I wear it more often by dressing it up or down? Do I have pieces that match at home? Is this going to be out of style in a year or less?

I’m also buying from stores that I know make quality products, so at least if they’re not “eco” I know they’ll last me a long time with good care. I stopped shopping at Forever 21, and the like, and unsubscribed from all these companies’ promotional emails to avoid temptation. I’m trying to shop local when possible. I definitely don’t mind shopping secondhand. It feels like you’ve discovered treasure when you find a perfect piece from a secondhand shop! And I’m tossing around the idea of using Rent the Runway for special event outfits. There’s nothing more frustrating than spending a pretty penny on a gorgeous event dress and never having anything to wear it to again.
